Board stalls on naming new LaFayette coach, AD

LaFayette High School will have to wait at least another month before a new head football coach and athletic director will be named after a surprise move at last week’s Chambers County Board of Education meeting.

Superintendent Kelli Hodge was expected to make a recommendation to the board last week for the position, but a group of LaFayette citizens appeared at the meeting and asked to have input in the decision prompting the board to table the vote.

The decision to table the vote came before Hodge had even presented her recommendation to the board, and only she and LHS Principal Montray Thompson are aware of who the recommendation will be.

Hodge’s said on Thursday that interviews for the position concluded on Monday, Jan. 13 and the four finalists for the position were notified after Wednesday’s meeting of the development. “None of them asked to have their names withdrawn,” she said.

LaFayette’s new head coach and athletic director will replace Dialleo Burks, who will leave LHS after just one season to take the head coaching job at Lagrange High School in Georgia.

Hodge stressed that it was very important to make the hire at the next meeting so that LaFayette will be able to hold spring practices. She also said that there are no intentions to reopen the application process for the position.
