Chambers Academy’s softball team got their season off to an impressive start when they defeated Evangel Christian on Friday, 12-0. The game was the first of the year for the Lady Rebels, because weather had disrupted their February 24 season opener.
It was an all-around strong performance by Coach Brandi Fuller’s team, as both the CA offense and defense appeared to be in mid-season form.
Chambers got an outstanding pitching performance from senior Bre’Anna Hand, who tossed a complete game. She struck out four batter and allowed five hits and just two walks in the win.
On offense, five Lady Rebels accumulated multiple hits. Kelsey Oliver and Anslee Reese both went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs each. Oliver scored four runs as well. Kristina Stewart was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and both McKensie Barnes and Jessica Moore had two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Hannah Slay was 1-for-2 with an RBI, two runs and two walks and NaCole Adams had one hit and scored once.
The Lady Rebels did most of their damage in the late innings on offense. Leading 3-0 after four inning, they erupted for five runs in the fifth, and then added four more in the sixth to bring the 10-run rule into effect.
Chambers has a busy week this week, weather permitting. They hosted Coosa Valley on Monday and South Montgomery on Tuesday. They are set to travel to Springwood on Thursday. They will return home next Monday when they are set to face Crenshaw and will travel to Cornerstone on Tuesday.
