The City of LaFayette’s annual summer basketball camp is currently underway at the LaFayette High School gym this week.
Longtime LaFayette High School basketball coach and summer basketball director John T. Woody leads the annual free camp. Approximately 100 local youth are taking part in the camp that includes instructional drills, competitive games and guest speakers. Campers received instruction from Woody, current LHS coaches Obadiah Threadgill and Michael Bratcher, as well as current and former LaFayette basketball players.
Woody is pleased with the turnout again this year as well as the attitude of the young campers. Woody, who has organized the free camp for more than 20 years each summer, extended his thanks to the City of LaFayette for sponsoring the camp.
The camp is the highlight of the summer program, but it is far from the end. Woody said that the gym would open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 1 pm for the rest of the summer. There is no fee, and the gym is open to any LaFayette youth.
An award ceremony will take place at the end of the camp on Friday, honoring those youth that excelled over the course of the week.
