Penton Raceway will kick off their 2014 schedule this weekend with an exciting Saturday night of dirt track racing. Gates will open at 5 pm CST and racing will begin at 8 pm. The four regular weekly series, Late Model, Bandit, Hobby and Limited Sportsman, will all be in action on Saturday.
It’s going to be an intense night at the 3/8-mile dirt oval as points champions Carley Arnett in the Bandit series, Kevin Page in the Hobby series, Kelly Leonard in the Sportsman series and Taylor Mitcham in the Late Model series begins their respective title defenses.
Racing on a Saturday night is a common trend this season as track officials have decided to shift the scheduled in order to accommodate more drivers and fans. They will race on Saturday’s when East Alabama Motor Speedway isn’t hosting events. You can expect this season to feature several new faces on both the track and in victory lane.
Right now there are 12 races on the schedule, only two of which are on Friday. There are four special races this year, including two NeSmith Late Model Series events.
The NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series will be in town on Saturday, July 5 as part of the Salute to America races. The event includes a $2,500-to-win feature. The NeSmith 525 Super Late Model Series will be in town on Saturday, May 17 for a $3,000-to-win event. On June 20, Mike Miller’s Sprint Cars will be on the track for the first Friday night action of the year. The other Friday night race will take place on August 15 when the Alabama Crate Mini Series comes to town for a $2,000-to-win event. All the special events this season will feature the regular weekly series races as well.
The full schedule includes race nights on April 5, April 19, May 17, May 31, June 20, June 28, July 5, July 19, July 26, August 9, August 15 and August 23.
Admission for regular races nights is $10 for those ages 13 and above for the grandstands and free for those 12 and under. Pit prices are $25 for those 13 and over and $15 for those 12 and under. For more information on Penton Raceway, call 334-864-0666 or 334-864-9641.
